How I Maintain my Curls (low-maintenance)

There are so many tips that you can find on the internet when it comes to maintaining chemically permed hair. What I’m going to share are the ones that work for me and they are on the low-maintenance side. Its been ten weeks since may hair was digitally-permed but my curls are still pretty and intact until now.

A. I DO NOT WASH MY HAIR EVERYDAY

Even before I had my hair digitally permed, I have this practice of not washing my hair every single day. Doing so tends to strip its natural oils. This might not work for everyone though. Lucky for me I don’t sweat a lot and most of the week I stay in an air-conditioned environment. Washing my hair every other day or at times on the third day makes my curls stay as it is.

B. USE HAIR SERUM OR ESSENCES

Hair essences and serums are vitamins for the hair that makes it healthy and provides nourishment. There are a lot of these products available online and in drug-stores but not much for curly hairs. What I have been using is easy to find at Watsons that only cost P109.00. A little amount goes a long way.

I apply this essence while my hair is still damp or semi-dry after showering. I part my hair into two, bringing both sides in front of my shoulders. Then, I just get a pea-size amount of the essence, rub it between my hands and lightly scrunch it on the curls. The same goes for the other side of the hair.

C. AVOID RUBBING THE HAIR AGAINST THE TOWEL AND LET IT TO AIR-DRY.

After showering, I just slightly press the hair on the towel, just enough to get rid of the excess water. It is important to avoid rubbing the hair against the towel as the friction can loosen the curls and makes the hair frizzy.

Afterwards, I just air-dry the hair, and trust me, this makes all the difference. The curls become more defined and the hair is healthy looking.

D. AVOID NON SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOOS

This is pretty self-explanatory, using shampoo with sulfate or paraben (as preservatives) may cause irritation on the scalp. Remember, a healthy scalp means healthy hair. If your hair is with artificial colouring like mine, this shampoos will make the colour fade away.

E. DO NOT USE HEAVY CONDITIONERS

Be careful in using hair conditioners because most of them are too heavy and made to keep the hair straight. What I use is the Hair Fall Defense from Cream Silk because it’s lightweight and with ultra-nourishing hair oils. This conditioner contains argan, rosehip and marulla oils. I’m also having some problems with hair-fall and this conditioner also addresses it.

See. Those tips are not complicated right?
