– Staying pretty amidst the summer heat –
The SUMMER Season in the Philippines is serious business because it gets really, really, really hot! So here are my tips and product recommendations to stay pretty amidst the summer heat.
MOISTURIZE, HYDRATE AND PROTECT THE SKIN
Extreme heat makes the skin suffer resulting to extreme dryness or oiliness depending on your skin type. Whatever the case is, it is very important to prepare the skin including the lips before sun exposure or applying makeup. Light moisturizers, lip balm and non-sticky sunscreens are your skin’s bff no matter what the season is, more so during summer. In this particular look what’s beneath my makeup are the Rovectin Skin Essentials Barrier Cream, Leaders SunBuddy Daily Moisture Sun Cream with SPF 50 and Lucas Papaw Ointment as my lip balm.
Other product recommendations: iWhite Korea Aqua Moisturizer, Biore UV Perfect Milk SPF 50, QuickFX Sunscreen SPF 50 and Rraw Fresh Sunblock (Spray) SPF 75.
LESS IS MORE
During a hot weather, the more makeup product you apply on your face, the more you are prone to caking or “paghuhulas” and nobody want’s that. Not unless you will be staying on an air-conditioned room or you are not commuting, try to put on as minimal makeup as you can. Only the essentials like your basic skincare products, base makeup, brows, blush, mascara, lip stick and no more extras. Less products will also give your skin comfort throughout the hot humid day.
CONSIDER USING POWDER FOUNDATIONS OVER LIQUID ONES
Letting our skin breathe will relieve the skin from stress brought about by the heat. Most liquid foundations tends to be heavy on the skin and clogged the pores. Moreover, you will need additional product, such as loose or compact powders to set it, remember less is more. Powder foundations on the other hand are much more lighter on the skin as compared to liquid ones. It is much easier and faster to apply, less tendencies to cake, easy to retouch and you won’t be waiting for it to set on the skin. I am now on my second compact of the Maybelline Fit Me! Skin-Fit Powder Foundation so yes, I can recommend it to you guys because it provides coverage and an added glow to the skin without being heavy. USE BROW MASCARA AND WATER-PROOF LASH MASCARA
Due to hot weather conditions the longevity of our makeup is compromised because of sweats and pool/beach water during summer outings. To uphold the motto: “kilay is life” – brow mascara is the key. Not only that it makes the brow product to last longer, it also tames the hairs of the eyebrows for a more polished look. On the above photo, what I have on my brows on top of my Etude House Drawing Eyebrow Pencil is the Kris Aquino Brow Mascara from Ever Bilena.
To maintain the drama of your curled lashes, my ultimate recommendation are the Heroine Make water-proof mascaras because they already earned my trust. These mascaras don’t budge, smudge and really stays on the lashes even after water activities. For this look, I used the Heroine Make Long and Curl Water-proof Mascara.
Other product recommendations: Heroine Make Volume & Curl Mascara and Maybelline HyperCurl Waterproof Mascara.
CHOOSE A BLUSH THAT MAKES YOUR CHEEKS GLOW
Blushes adds a flush of color to the cheeks which makes the skin looks healthy. Cream type of blushes is what I recommend to use during summer because it tends to stay longer than powder ones and it only covers the cheek area so the rest of the skin can still breathe. But if you want to achieve an instant glow on your cheeks, try the Maybelline Fit Me! blush which is what I’m wearing in the photo (shade NUDE). Its a “creamy” type of powder that provides a sheen on the cheeks which looks so pretty especially when the light hits it. Just make sure not to apply too much because the skin might look oily.
USE MY LIPS BUT BETTER (MLBB) LIP PRODUCTS TO BRIGHTEN THE FACE
A fresh soft look is what’s “summer perfect” for me. Like the environment, our skin should also look bright and radiant. To achieve this, I finished my look by using a lipstick shade that compliments the simplicity of my makeup. What I’m wearing is a lipstick from MAC Cosmetics in the shade Kinda Sexy. It’s really a fun, refreshing and one of the ultimate MLBB shades.
Other product recommendations: Mac Please Me (left), Mac Ginger Rose (right), Kris Matte Matic Lipstick in Life and BLK Back to the 90’s Soft Matte Mousse in Booyah.
SEAL THE LOOK WITH A SETTING/MIST SPRAY
Just to make sure that your summer makeup will last even longer, you can use setting sprays. In my case however, I sealed the look by spraying the Mac Cosmetics Prep +Prime Fix Plus all over my face. Mists like this intends to add dewiness on the look and at the same time provides a refreshing/cooling sensation to the skin. You can apply them before and after makeup applications.
Other product recommendations: Avene Thermal Spring Water and Luminisce Botanical Mist.
